Madrid, September 19 (EFECOM) - The Latin American telecommunications aggregator Plusmo has launched operations in Spain with the support of Telefónica and Orange, aiming to enhance services related to Rich Communication Services (RCS) and Mobile ID.
"This aggregator was born in Argentina 25 years ago, starting with the first text message and expanding with new technologies. We partner with carriers to provide added value to companies," explained the company's CEO, Gabriel Chapt, on Thursday at the Wholesale World Congress (WWC). After starting in Argentina and expanding to other countries in the region, like Chile, Uruguay, and Peru, Plusmo recently began operations in Europe, with Spain and France as its initial markets.
Chapt emphasized that their role and business model are based on positioning between operators and companies or media agencies to develop solutions that help telecommunications companies reach their clients. One of the main business lines will focus on RCS messaging, a service offering more functionality than SMS by allowing, for example, photo carousels and increased security to prevent potential fraud. This service is targeted at businesses as a possible alternative to other messaging applications like WhatsApp Business.
"The market is global, but the networks are not. The only way to achieve this integration is by using aggregators to manage the network," said Isabel Fernández, Head of STAs Business Development (Service Access Specifications) at Orange, who also participated in the presentation. Fernández added that these actors are needed to reach companies, both large and SMEs. Another area where this aggregator will develop its business is in mobile identity solutions. "Telcos have attempted this several times, but this time is definitive," said Fernández.
She later referred to the "Open Gateway" initiative launched in 2023 and led by the global telecom association (GSMA), which seeks to open telecom network capabilities to software developers to create new applications and services. EFECOM
