Broncos Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
Wed, 19 Nov 2008 06:15:24 GMT
The Broncos' defense isn't going to be confused with the Ravens' or the Steelers', but it is making progress.
The Broncos were pleased with the job they did against Atlanta, holding the powerful Falcons rushing game to 3.3 yards per attempt and allowing only 20 points in a 24-20 win Sunday.
Denver has worked at improving the run defense after a horrible start, and it paid off Sunday.
"To play the ...

John Lynch retires after 15 years in NFL (AP)
Tue, 18 Nov 2008 00:34:54 GMT
No more bone-jarring tackles for John Lynch. The hard-hitting, nine-time Pro Bowl safety retired Monday, saying it was time to begin a new phase of life after 11 seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and four more with the Denver Broncos. He felt so strongly about the relationships he built with both clubs that he decided against stepping down in the colors of either team.
Broncos stay afloat thanks to reinforcements (AP)
Tue, 18 Nov 2008 00:26:56 GMT
Some deft draft-day decisions are helping the Denver Broncos win games even as they keep losing players. The Broncos (6-4) have forged a two-game lead over San Diego in the AFC West thanks to rookies and reinforcements who aren't wasting any time making their mark in the NFL. John Lynch, who made his retirement official Monday after four Pro Bowl seasons in Denver, said he was glad to see the...

Broncos rookie Larsen starts at FB and LB (AP)
Sun, 16 Nov 2008 22:40:54 GMT
Spencer Larsen made history in his first NFL start. Larsen, a rookie, became the first Denver player to start on offense and defense in the same game when he opened Sunday's matchup against Atlanta as the team's middle linebacker and fullback. He also opened the game on special teams, too. Larsen's role as a two-way starter on offense and defense was a secret this week.
Broncos rally for 24-20 victory over Atlanta (AP)
Sun, 16 Nov 2008 22:37:45 GMT
The Denver Broncos have come up with all sorts of ways to deal with their injuries, from starting a player on both sides of the line to relying on a guy with plenty of baggage. It's working out just fine. Jay Cutler threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Graham with 5 1/2 minutes remaining, the Denver defense held off Matt Ryan's last-gasp drive and the gritty Broncos rallied for a 24-20 victory....

Sun, 16 Nov 2008 17:24:19 GMT
Running back Selvin Young and cornerback Champ Bailey were inactive for the Denver Broncos' game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Young and Bailey were held out with groin injuries. Young has only one carry since Oct. 5. Young's injury left fullback Peyton Hillis as the probable starting running back for the Broncos.
Like old times: Elam welcomes Broncos to Atlanta (AP)
Sun, 16 Nov 2008 05:00:54 GMT
Before every game, Jason Elam envisions himself lining up for a game-winning field goal. That scenario played out plenty of times with the Denver Broncos. Come Sunday, he'll imagine beating the team where he established himself as one of the best clutch kickers in NFL history. Nothing personal. It's just that Elam now kicks for the Atlanta Falcons, his new team after 15 years in the Mile High City...
Broncos' once mighty backfield slowed by injuries (AP)
Thu, 13 Nov 2008 23:49:06 GMT
So much for the notion that you could plug anybody into Mike Shanahan's system and he would rush for 1,000 yards. Injuries and inconsistency have quashed that theory. The Broncos rank 18th in the NFL in rushing, have just one 100-yard rusher in their last 12 games, and they're well on their way to a second straight season without a 1,000-yard runner, something that happened just once in Shanahan's...

Bell returns to Broncos with no baggage (AP)
Thu, 13 Nov 2008 03:37:16 GMT
Forget Rudi Johnson's swiped luggage. In Mike Shanahan's eyes, Tatum Bell carries no baggage. "I judge Tatum by what he's done here. Tatum did a great job for me," the Denver Broncos coach Wednesday said after signing Bell to a one-year deal 2 1/2 months after his ignominious departure from Detroit. Bell, who was captured on camera removing two Gucci bags belonging to his successor when he was...

Marshall denied chance to honor Obama on the field (AP)
Fri, 07 Nov 2008 22:57:15 GMT
The possibility of a yellow flag curtailed Brandon Marshall's red, white and blue tribute to President-elect Barack Obama with a black-and-white glove. After scoring the go-ahead touchdown with just over a minute left in Denver's 34-30 win at Cleveland on Thursday night, the Broncos' star receiver pulled the glove from his pants.
Cutler puts Broncos on his shoulders (AP)
Fri, 07 Nov 2008 22:23:39 GMT
Jay Cutler may or may not have a stronger arm than John Elway, as he so famously asserted last month. One thing's for sure, though: Cutler certainly has some pretty broad shoulders. And he's going to need them. Denver lost its third tailback in four days Friday when it was confirmed that rookie Ryan Torain tore a ligament in his left knee and is done for the season.

John Elway isn't the only Denver quarterback capable of breaking Cleveland's heart. Jay Cutler pulled off this fourth-quarter comeback, turning Brady Quinn's big night into his own prime-time showcase. Cutler passed for a career-high 447 yards and threw three touchdown passes in the final 15 minutes Thursday night -- the last an 11-yarder to Brandon Marshall with 1:14 remaining -- to rally the...
2 more Broncos running backs injured (AP)
Fri, 07 Nov 2008 03:16:40 GMT
The Denver Broncos are running out of running backs. With starter Michael Pittman and backup Andre Hall already out for the season, Denver lost rookie Ryan Torain and third-year pro Selvin Young to injuries in the second quarter Thursday night against the Cleveland Browns. The Broncos did not use a running back on their final possession of the first half and went to the locker room trailing 20-10.

Fri, 07 Nov 2008 01:02:49 GMT
Browns quarterback Brady Quinn lined up for his first NFL start behind an offensive line missing starting left guard Eric Steinbach, who sat out Thursday night's game against the Denver Broncos with a rib injury. Steinbach, a Pro Bowler last season, pulled a muscle in his rib area in Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

On his first play of practice as Cleveland's starting quarterback, Brady Quinn caught a pass behind the line of scrimmage before stepping up and launching the ball deep down field. As he approached the goal line, wide receiver Braylon Edwards, whose season has been defined by drops, had to accelerate to get his hands on the ball.
Rookie RB set to carry the load for Broncos (AP)
Wed, 05 Nov 2008 20:01:36 GMT
Rookie running back Ryan Torain's time has come. It appears the former Arizona State star who drew comparisons to Terrell Davis before breaking his left elbow in training camp will get the bulk of carries when the Denver Broncos play at Cleveland on Thursday night. Torain rushed three times for a yard in his NFL debut last week against Miami, when the Broncos lost starter Michael Pittman (spinal.....
Broncos out of RBs? Can't happen, can it? (AP)
Wed, 05 Nov 2008 19:14:16 GMT
For more than a decade, the Denver Broncos always seemed to be able to find a running back who could give them 100 yards or more per game and 1,200 or so in a full season. Not this year. As the Broncos go to Cleveland on Thursday night to face the Browns and newly installed quarterback Brady Quinn, they are coming off a loss to Miami in which they gained just 14 yards rushing.
Reinforcements arrive for banged-up Broncos (AP)
Wed, 05 Nov 2008 00:39:41 GMT
A slew of reinforcements arrived in Denver on Tuesday following the Broncos' latest spate of injuries. The Broncos (4-4) lost leading tackler D.J. Williams for up to a month with a left knee injury on Sunday, when they also lost running backs Michael Pittman (neck) and Andre Hall (hand) for the season and safety Marlon McCree for several weeks with a high ankle sprain.
Broncos' Marshall returns insults to Porter (AP)
Tue, 04 Nov 2008 22:42:40 GMT
Joey Porter and Brandon Marshall just can't leave the trash talk on the field. Brandon Marshall couldn't catch a pass or a break Sunday, his career-best 77-yard touchdown grab negated by a borderline push-off flag that fueled Miami's 26-17 win over the bedeviled Denver Broncos. About the only thing the Broncos superstar caught Sunday was flack from Joey Porter, the Miami motormouth who helped hold him to just two catches while the Dolphins improved to 4-4.
