Suddenly, the Indianapolis Colts are getting it right. They're scoring touchdowns and punting less. They're forcing turnovers and reducing their mistakes. They're getting ahead and winning games. Masterful Manning leads Colts past Texans 33-27 (AP)
Sun, 16 Nov 2008 22:39:58 GMT
Peyton Manning finally found a way to get the Colts' offense in gear Sunday. He used the pass to create running lanes, mystified the Houston defense with gashing plays, wore down the Texans with a steady repertoire of no-huddle offense and got his teammates playing at full throttle. This is how Manning believes Indianapolis can win.

Ben Roethlisberger is a Super Bowl-winning quarterback in his fifth season. That doesn't mean he still can't learn a valuable lesson from Peyton Manning: Sometimes, inaccuracy beats impatience. Manning took advantage of Roethlisberger's fourth quarter interception to find Dominic Rhodes out of the backfield on a 17-yard touchdown pass with 3:04 remaining for Indianapolis' only lead, and the Colts....

Maybe Anthony Gonzalez is just a quick study. How else can one explain his accelerated ascension? The numbers from Gonzalez's first 1 1/2 NFL seasons may not look that impressive until you realize Gonzalez has already achieved something that took twice as long for Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark -- finding a comfort zone in Indianapolis' offense.
Polamalu may be rivaled only by Colts' Sanders (AP)
Thu, 06 Nov 2008 21:45:56 GMT
Troy Polamalu's playmaking style for the Pittsburgh Steelers is one part linebacker, one part cornerback and a lot of inventive nonconformity that makes him one of the NFL's most talented defensive players. Or a safety much like Bob Sanders, whose Indianapolis Colts face a pivotal game Sunday in Pittsburgh in which both teams may need a big play from their game-altering defensive back to win.

The Colts have a hard time measuring the true impact made by safety Bob Sanders. When healthy, he always seems to put up big numbers, deliver punishing hits, produce game-changing plays, and provide an inspirational lift for his defensive teammates. Opponents, like New England, would rather avoid testing Sanders.

Adam Vinatieri still has it. The 36-year-old kicker showed his old team Sunday night that age hasn't sapped his distance, accuracy or proclivity for making big field goals. He hit a 52-yarder late in the game to give Indianapolis a desperately needed 18-15 victory over New England -- and Vinatieri a measure of revenge.

Colts, Manning trying to fight out of early slump (AP)
Wed, 29 Oct 2008 20:53:15 GMT
Peyton Manning still struggles for an apt description for Indianapolis' uncharacteristic season. Tony Dungy has a simpler explanation. On Wednesday, the Colts coach trashed his typically disciplined answers by declaring his team, including the two-time league MVP, in a full-fledged slump. "Peyton has generally been seven-plus yards per pass attempt and a high number of touchdown passes," Dungy sai...

Mistakes still hindering the Colts (AP)
Tue, 28 Oct 2008 21:34:31 GMT
Tony Dungy knows exactly what's wrong with the Indianapolis Colts this season. Costly penalties, dropped passes, defensive breakdowns, virtually no running game, a still-struggling Peyton Manning and assorted injuries to other key players have produced the team's worst start in a decade. At 3-4 heading into the final game of the first half of the season against New England on Sunday night, the...

Peyton Manning isn't ready to surrender the AFC South to the unbeaten Tennessee Titans. As for his coach, well, even the optimist in Tony Dungy knows the momentum -- and the math -- are against the Indianapolis Colts after Monday night's 31-21 loss to the NFL's hottest team. "In the grand scheme of things, winning the division is going to be tough to do," he said.
Titans remain NFL's lone undefeated team (AP)
Tue, 28 Oct 2008 05:01:32 GMT
Don't call the Tennessee Titans the NFL's best team just yet. They're happy with being the league's last unbeaten club and grabbing a chokehold on the AFC South away from the Indianapolis Colts. LenDale White ran for two touchdowns, Chris Hope intercepted Peyton Manning twice and the Titans routed the Colts 31-21 Monday night.

A staph infection in a bursa sac in Peyton Manning's left knee led to the surgery that kept him out of much of the Indianapolis Colts' preseason training camp, the team confirmed Friday. But team officials denied reports Manning had a highly virulent form of staph infection that is difficult to treat called methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
