Panthers Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
Wed, 19 Nov 2008 06:15:24 GMT
Defensive end Julius Peppers had two more sacks on Sunday against the Detroit Lions, giving him five sacks in the past two weeks and nine for the season. He also forced his fifth fumble of the season, repositioning himself for a fourth trip to Honolulu and the Pro Bowl in February. Peppers had a sack on Detroit's first series and later stripped Daunte Culpepper in the fourth quarter, accounting fo...
Offseason decision to trade Jenkins fuels Panthers (AP)
Tue, 18 Nov 2008 21:19:26 GMT
Kris Jenkins is having one of his best seasons, dominating at nose guard and helping the New York Jets become a playoff contender. The Carolina Panthers sure made a mistake trading the three-time Pro Bowl selection for third- and fifth-round draft picks, right? Wrong. The move may be the biggest reason the Panthers (8-2) have the third-best record in the NFL.

Mon, 17 Nov 2008 20:43:39 GMT
The Carolina Panthers have won four straight games, have the third-best record in the NFL and have already surpassed last year's win total. They're 6-0 at home, 8-2 overall, lead the NFC South and appear in great position to end a two-year playoff drought. Now that that's out of the way: What's wrong with them?

Panthers' running game keeps Lions winless 31-22 (AP)
Sun, 16 Nov 2008 23:24:07 GMT
Jake Delhomme was eager to make up for the worst game of his career. He settled for handing off to his two dynamic running backs. Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams bolted through huge holes in a record-setting day on the ground for the Carolina Panthers, who needed that dominance to hold off the winless Detroit Lions 31-22 on Sunday.
Lions banged up on defense against Panthers (AP)
Sun, 16 Nov 2008 17:22:51 GMT
The banged-up, winless Detroit Lions were without four key players on defense for Sunday's game at Carolina. Starting defensive ends Jared DeVries (hand) and Dewayne White (calf), free safety Dwight Smith (foot) and cornerback Keith Smith (groin) did not dress. Center Dominic Raiola (hand) and receiver Mike Furrey (concussion) also did not play for the Lions, who started Daunte Culpepper at...

It doesn't mean John Fox and the Carolina Panthers are overlooking their second-year middle linebacker. Far from it. Bring up Beason's name in the locker room and even the shy, reserved Julius Peppers perks up.

In the worst game of his career, Delhomme threw seven passes to his teammates, four to the other team, and the rest fell to the turf in 27 attempts.

Panthers top Raiders 17-6 in mistake-filled game (AP)
Mon, 10 Nov 2008 01:48:38 GMT
It's been more than three decades since a quarterback played a game as poorly as Jake Delhomme did and still ended up on the winning side. That's what facing a team as bad as the Oakland Raiders will do. Delhomme threw a touchdown pass on the opening drive but completed only six other passes while throwing four interceptions in the Carolina Panthers' 17-6 victory over the Raiders on Sunday.

Options after Smith come in handy for Panthers (AP)
Thu, 06 Nov 2008 22:01:36 GMT
Steve Smith loves a challenge, and on Sunday he faces a big one: a match up against Oakland's shutdown cornerback, Nnamdi Asomugha. In the past, that would have brought concern to the Carolina Panthers, who had no reliable second receiving option. This season, they finally have a Plan B. "Steve was a one-man show.

Hoops, tennis lover Johnson shines for Panthers (AP)
Wed, 05 Nov 2008 23:05:26 GMT
Charles Johnson is only 6-foot-2, his first love is basketball and he's a mean doubles tennis player. It's hardly a resume that you'd think would produce the second-most sacks for the Carolina Panthers this season. "I was always a basketball player," Johnson said Wednesday. "If I was 6-8 I'd probably be a basketball player." Instead, the athletic, quick, if undersized Johnson has slowly developed....

Panthers RB Williams' play scaring opponents (AP)
Fri, 31 Oct 2008 07:09:46 GMT
DeAngelo Williams couldn't have asked for a better week. The horror film fanatic's favorite day, Halloween, comes during the Carolina Panthers' bye week. And Williams is coming off one of the best games of his career, rushing for 108 yards and a touchdown in a win over Arizona. Not bad for a guy many thought would lose his job to rookie Jonathan Stewart.

On Wednesday, two days after his 39th birthday and in the midst of a streak of 21 consecutive made field goals, the last original Panther decided he was far from finished, signing another four-year extension that keeps him entrenched as Carolina's...

How did he do it? Smith's TD leads Panthers to win (AP)
Mon, 27 Oct 2008 20:21:29 GMT
Steve Smith had just broken two tackles, tiptoed down the sideline and dove into the end zone for yet another spectacular touchdown to add to his hefty collection. But when he turned around, none of his Carolina Panthers teammates were there to celebrate with him. Even they had doubts his latest acrobatic play would stand up to a replay review.

On Sunday, as the league staged a game in London, the two former NFL castoffs held a quarterbacking clinic stateside -- with Delhomme engineering a comeback that wiped out his ex-teammate's monster day.
